Introduction

This backpack tether is intended to be used by homeowners and professional operators. The backpack tether is designed to connect to a Toro 60V Backpack to power compatible Toro 60V handheld products. Using this product for purposes other than its intended use could prove dangerous to you and bystanders.

The backpack and backpack tether are not compatible with ground-engaging or walk-behind products (such as snow removal tools or lawn mowers).

Read this information carefully to learn how to operate and maintain your product properly and to avoid injury and product damage. You are responsible for operating the product properly and safely.

Whenever you need service, genuine the manufacturer parts, or additional information, contact an Authorized Service Dealer or the manufacturer Customer Service and have the model and serial numbers of your product ready. Figure 1 identifies the location of the model and serial numbers on the product. Write the numbers in the space provided.

Operation

Warning

Improper use of the backpack, backpack tether, or an attached tool can create risk of injury.

Read and follow the Operator’s Manuals for the backpack and your specific tool before using the backpack tether with the backpack.

Warning

Inspect the tether cord for damage before each use, do not use a damaged cord.

  • If the cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its authorized service agent or an authorized service dealer in order to avoid hazard.

  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the tether.

  • Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.

  • If using a cutting tool, keep the cord away from the cutting area.

Installing the Tether

  1. Align the backpack connector to the backpack and slide it down into the backpack until it locks into the latch (Figure 4).

  2. Align the battery connector and insert it into the tool until it locks into the latch as shown in Figure 5.

    Note: At any time, press the battery-charge-indicator button on the battery connector to display the current charge (LED indicators).

    Note: The battery tether is only compatible with handheld products, it cannot be used with ground-engaging or walk-behind products (such as snow removal tools or lawn mowers).

Removing the Tether

  1. Press the latch button on the tool and remove the battery connector from the tool (Figure 6).

  2. Press the latch button on the backpack connector and pull it up to separate the tether from the backpack (Figure 7).

Maintenance

Maintenance and servicing are not required under normal conditions.

When you clean the surface of the equipment, wipe it only with a dry cloth.

Do not disassemble the equipment; if it is damaged, do not attempt to use it; contact your Authorized Service Dealer.

Storage

  • Disconnect the product from the power supply (i.e., remove the tether) and check for damage after use.

  • Clean all foreign material from the product.

  • Do not store the tether connected to the backpack or a tool.

  • When not in use, store the tether out of the reach of children.

  • Keep the tether away from corrosive agents, such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.

  • Store the tether in an enclosed clean, dry area.

Troubleshooting

Perform only the steps described in these instructions. All further inspection, maintenance, and repair work must be performed by an authorized service center or a similarly qualified specialist if you cannot solve the problem yourself.

  1. The battery connector is not fully installed into the tool.
  2. The backpack connector is not fully installed into the backpack.
  3. The battery pack(s) are not charged.
  4. There is moisture on the leads of the battery pack(s)
  5. There is moisture on the leads of the backpack connector, or battery connector.
  6. The backpack tether is damaged.
  7. The battery pack(s) are damaged.
  8. The battery pack(s) are over or under the appropriate temperature range.
  9. There is another electrical problem with the tool, backpack, battery or tether.
  1. Remove and then replace the battery connector into the tool making sure that it is fully installed and latched.
  2. Remove and then replace the backpack connector into the backpack making sure that it is fully installed and latched.
  3. Remove the battery pack(s) from the tool and charge them.
  4. Remove the battery pack(s) and allow them to dry or wipe them dry.
  5. Remove both the backpack connector and the battery connector and allow them to dry or wipe them dry.
  6. Replace the backpack tether or contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
  7. Replace the battery pack(s) or contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
  8. Move the battery pack(s) to a place where it is dry and the temperature is between 5°C (41°F) and 40°C (104°F).
  9. Contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
